Dean, as he was known, was born in Pomona, CA on July 21, 1912, the second of three children to Irving John and Mary R. Stone. The family soon after settled in Laton, CA where he grew up. He served as an Army Flight Medic during World War II. Dean married Truth Fosberg on February 14, 1942 and settled in Hanford, California after the war. Dean worked as a licensed vocational nurse for the Kings County Hospital for over 30 years. In retirement, Dean and Truth enjoyed traveling to National Parks and Monuments as well as visiting friends and family. He was also an avid bowler, and continued bowling until age 92 when he quit to stay home to care for Truth. Dean developed an extensive wood shop where he made and gave away hundreds of windmills, whirly birds, planters, butterflies, and Aggravation boards. Aggravation was his favorite game which he played with anyone, anytime and often won. With no children of their own, Uncle Dean and Aunt Truth were devoted to their nieces and nephews and extended family of friends. Dean had a generous spirit, a curious mind and a great sense of humor. He will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.
Dean is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 65 years Truth Stone, sister Irene Emmett, brother Crafton “Stoney” Stone, and nephews Mark Stone, Clyde Emmett, and Robert Emmett.
Dean is survived by nieces, Diana Dooley and husband Dan of Sacramento, CA; Rita Cosenza of Oregon City, OR; Ruth Dickerson and husband Henry of Ashville, NC; and Lynne Ellis and husband John of Hanford, CA; nephews William Emmett of Rupert, Idaho; Gerald Emmett and wife Pat of Fresno, CA; Timothy Fosberg of Hanford and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to Dr. Allan Knudson, a trusted friend, coworker, and physician and to the staff and administration at Hacienda Health Care. Your kindness, compassion and the friendship you showed to Dean is immeasurable.
