

Alice Ellen Collins was born October 1, 1925 in Estancia, New Mexico. She was the 10th child of William Stevens Thompson and Florence Christiana Madole. Alice graduated from Moriarty High School in 1944. She went to Albuquerque Business College and graduated in 1945. She met and later married Leslie Arnold Collins in Edgewood, New Mexico on December 3, 1949. After moving to California in 1951, Alice was both a Brownie Scout and Girl Scout Leader. In 1958, in Pittsburg, California, she started her sales career by selling cemetery plots for Memory Gardens. Alice, Les and family, moved to Hanford in 1960. She studied and obtained her Real Estate License, selling Real Estate for about 10 years. After a brief break, she became a radio sales Account Executive for KNGS, KJUG, KMJ, and KSEQ. She was a Home Health Care Giver for the Elderly, for 10-12 years. Active in the Community, Alice was responsible for organizing the Hanford High Band Boosters in 1965. Alice actively participated in Jobs’ Daughter Chapter Bethel #113, with daughter Sharon, who became Honored Queen in the spring of 1971. At the age of 80, she passed the State License Board and sold Life Insurance for 2 years. She served as a Table Leader for Senior Ethics Seminars for 10 years. She was a member of the Hanford Optimist Club for more than 25 years, was selected Optimist of the Year in 2000 and was awarded with a Lifetime Membership. Through her efforts, Junior Optimist Clubs were formed at JFK, Woodrow Wilson Junior High, and Hanford High School. She served as an Ambassador for the Hanford Chamber of Commerce for more than 25 years. Alice was a Charter Member of the Sunset Rotary Club, a member of the Kings County Republican Women, and Kings County Historical Society. In 2011 Alice was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Hanford Chamber of Commerce. She was also involved with Kings County Homecoming Committee, the Homecoming Parade Committee, Hanford Street Party Committee, and was International Food Committee Chairman, for the Hanford Centennial Celebration. Alice has been a faithful member of The Primitive Baptist Church for over 75 years.
Alice was preceded in death by Les Collins, her husband of 64 ½ years.
She is survived by 3 children; Teresa Dainty of North Zulch, Texas and twins, Terry Collins of Hanford and Sharon Smith of Visalia, Grandchildren; Fred Dainty and wife Laura of North Zulch, Texas, Tim Dainty and wife Cassandra of Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, Michael Dainty and wife Courtney of Bryan, Texas, Matthew Farmer and wife Leah of Fresno and Laurie Cagle and husband Troy of Visalia, 11 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great-Grand Daughters. She too will be missed by her only surviving sister; Bertha Roland, 93 old of Midland, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. all at People’s Funeral Chapel; 501 N.
