It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles “Glen” Adams, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, Marine, and true man of integrity. He left this world peacefully after a two year battle with colon cancer. In his final days he was surrounded by the family he cherished and the loved ones he cultivated throughout his remarkable life.
Born on August 12, 1945 in San Diego, California, to Agnes and Lloyd Adams, Glen was raised mostly in Wichita, Kansas. He graduated from Wichita North High School in 1963 and promptly joined the United States Marine Corps. Following his service in the Marines he continued to protect and serve for a short time as a Los Angeles Police Officer. Later, he took a position at Security Pacific Bank in Lakewood, California and worked his way up to management. During this time he met the love of his life Roberta Jean Nichols. While working for the bank he was later transferred to Visalia, and finally to Coalinga, California in 1981 where he and his wife raised their two daughters.
Glen wore many hats throughout his forty-three years spent in Coalinga: Assistant Manager of Security Pacific Bank, Assistant Manager of Union Bank (of which he retired), Mayor Pro Tem, oilfield worker, Office Manager/Accountant of Wilson’s Incorporated Oil Company, Real Estate Agent, and Food Cook Manager for California Department of Corrections at Avenal State Prison and Pleasant Valley State Prison Coalinga (of which he also retired). For many years, he also served on the Coalinga Chamber of Commerce, on the board of Coalinga-Huron Unified School District, a member of the City Council, Chairman of the Coalinga Horned Toad Derby, member of the American Legion, and was still a member of the Coalinga Lion’s club. Holding a variety of positions was a reflection of his hardworking spirit and tireless dedication to his family. No task was ever too small or too great for him when it came to providing for those he loved.
But beyond his many accomplishments, Glen will be remembered most for the man he was. A kind, caring soul, he had an uncanny ability to make everyone he met feel valued and loved. His warm smile, infectious laugh, firm handshake, and gentle words left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path. He taught his family the importance of resilience, integrity, and the satisfaction of a hard day’s work.
He was a loving husband to Roberta “Bobbie” Jean, with whom he shared fifty-two beautiful years of marriage, building a life grounded in faith and mutual respect. Together they raised two daughters, instilling in them the values of compassion, perseverance, and kindness. As a grandfather, Glen was a source of boundless wisdom, unwavering support, and endless love.
Outside of his work and family, Glen found joy in gardening, playing the Lotto, connecting with friends and family on Facebook, and baking. He found solace in the simple moments.
Though his physical presence will be deeply missed, the legacy of Glen lives on in the countless lives he touched. His spirit will forever guide his loved ones, standing tall like the mountains he admired and as steadfast as the principles he upheld.
Glen is survived by his daughters Kristina Palmer and Debbie Adams, his son-in-law Sean Palmer, two grandchildren Ivalinn and Patrick Palmer who will carry forward the torch of his love and dedication. He is reunited in heaven with his wife Roberta Jean, his parents Agnes and Lloyd Adams, his sister Teresa Walton, and countless pets.
Services to honor Glen’s life will be at the graveside for close family and friends with a celebration of life to follow. Rest easy, Charles Glen Adams. Your watch is over, but your love will never fade. Semper Fi.
