David "Woody" Woods of Hanford passed away and went to the great big fishing pond in the sky on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the age of 79.
Woody was born on January 11, 1938 in Foreman, Arkansas to Pete and Lottie Woods. He graduated from Lemoore High School in 1956. In 1958, Woody joined the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Germany, France and Holland as a jet mechanic.
After the Air Force, Woody settled down in Hanford where he started a 35 year career at Pirelli Armstrong Tire Company.
One of Woody's many passions was playing fast pitch softball. He reached legendary status as a top ranked AAA division pitcher. While playing softball he met his wife, Bibiana. Woody would often tell the story, with a laugh, that Bibiana caught his attention during a game while she was loudly rooting for the other team. Woody knew at that moment that she was the one.
He was also an avid tournament bass fisherman and often ranked in the top 5 in the State of California. Woody formed the Hanford Bass Club in the 1980's bringing a strong interest of tournament fishing to the Hanford area.
Woody would also spend two weeks every deer season hunting at Dinkey Creek. He enjoyed spending time around the camp fire with his friends exchanging stories.
Woody is survived by his loving wife, Bibiana, of 50 years. He is also survived by his 3 children, Greg Woods of Madera and wife Stacy, Jacque Bopp of Bakersfield and husband David and Kimberly Woods of Bakersfield. He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren, Stetson Woods, Karsyn Woods, Dean Bopp and Logan Bopp. He will be greatly missed.
A Graveside Service will be held at Hanford Cemetery; 10500 S. 10th Ave., Hanford on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 1:00 pm.
