Evert Albert Turner was born July 11th 1933 in Geary Oklahoma to Agnes Ward Turner and Joseph Irven Turner. He was the 11th of 12 children, the baby boy of the bunch. While Evert was still young his family moved to California where he graduated from Kerman High School in 1951. During his high school years he met a young lady names Martha while they both attended the Kerman Assembly of God church. While smitten with this “chubby gal from Dos Palos” (as he lovingly recalled), Evert answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the Navy. During his time away the two wrote letter back and forth and he was soon ring shopping in Guam! One of those letters would soon include a beautiful ring and marriage proposal. Martha happily accepted and while on leave Martha and Evert married on July 18th 1953 in the very same church where they met. Martha and Evert spent 62 years together in wedded bliss until Martha was called home in 2015.
During those 62 years Evert and Martha welcomed three children into their family. Susan Diane was born 1955, Daniel Leland was born 1958, and Lesa Kay was born 1962. The Turner’s would settle in the little town of Coalinga, CA were Evert would work and retire as Supervisor with Fresno County Roads. In retirement Evert could focus on his tinkering (there was no scanner in the house that was not taken apart). But all this extra time was too much for Evert so he spent several years driving school buses for Coalinga Huron Unified. Little did he know how much he would LOVE this job. He drove the athletic teams and enjoyed catching the games and napping in the bus between them.
No matter how Evert spent his days, he spent them in service to the Lord. He was a true man of God. He taught Sunday School, Royal Rangers, and preached on occasion when needed. He was a member of the Full Gospel Businessmen and hosted many missionaries. He even drove the Church bus (One trip was a 13 hour trip to Disneyland because the bus could only go 35 MPH. He was even pulled over for going too slow on the freeway! And he didn’t turn around…lucky kids in that bus!)
His love for Christ was reflected in his love for his wife and family. His legacy of loving Christ and living a life pleasing to Him has been passed down generations. Evert is survived by his three children Susan of Coalinga, Ca, Dan of Olkulgee, Ok, and Lesa of Bakersfield, Ca. His ten grandchildren: Lynnette, Christy, Valerie, Danielle, Jennifer, Carrie, Eric, Samuel, Aaron, and Sarah. His fifteen Great Grandchildren: Noah, Selah, Luke, Joel, Emma, Logan, Blake, Andrew, Thomas, Riley, Jace, Kaylynn, Bradley, Gracie, Bryce, and Orlah. He is also survived by two sisters: AnnaMae Buffalo of Sacramento and Josie Farr of Iowa.
Evert is preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings.
Evert has been reunited with his sweetheart Martha in heaven where they can dance on streets of gold and we rejoice in the hope of joining them someday.
