Gregory Dean Henry was born at the Camp Zama Army hospital in Japan on April 21, 1965 to proud parents, Darryl and Albina “Bea” Henry. An avid high school athlete, Greg lettered in swimming, water polo, and golf at Hanford High before graduating with academic honors in 1983.
Following high school, Greg worked for many years at Hanford’s Food King supermarket. There he met a customer named Linda Bennett. A whirlwind romance ensued, and the two married on August 10, 1985.
After leaving Food King, Greg continued his education, receiving his Bachelors Degree at Fresno Pacific University in 1999. He then began his career as an educator - a career which he loved and which would give him great pride as he quickly advanced. He also achieved his Master of Arts degree from Chapman University in 2007. Greg taught math at Hanford West High School for 5 years. During his time at Hanford West, he was instrumental in helping the school receive a special grant to help install it’s first computer lab. While Greg became a teacher for the love of teaching, he soon decided that his skills would possibly equip him to benefit more students as an administrator. He was hired as Vice Principal at Pioneer Middle School and after 2 years in that position was promoted to become the school’s Principal. As Principal, he was a student favorite, always an encourager, and a student advocate who regularly partnered with families to plan the best educational strategy for their students. In 2014 he became the Vice Principal at Sierra Pacific High School, where 1 year later he would become the school’s principal. He was extremely proud to serve the students, faculty, and staff of Sierra Pacific. As a teacher and administrator he went above and beyond expectations to help students succeed.
In addition to his career in Hanford schools, Greg has taught math for Brandman University for the past 5 years. He also coached and refereed water polo. He was tireless in helping students and athletes have the best opportunities possible.
Greg was preceded in death by his dear mother, Bea in 2007. Greg is survived by Linda, his devoted wife of 31 years. He is also survived by their 3 children, Nicole Hollenbeck and her husband Jeffery of Las Vegas NV, Connor Henry and his wife Brandy of Hanford, CA, and Lauren Henry of Hanford. He also leaves behind 2 grandchildren, whom he adored: Rory and Brooklyn. He is also survived by his father Darryl and step mother Phyllis Henry, his sister Teresa Burleson and her husband Ray.
A memorial celebration will be held this Saturday, August 27th at 1:30 PM, at the Golden Eagles Arena on the campus of West Hills College, 555 College Avenue, Lemoore, CA 93245. All are encouraged to wear cheerful colors, highlighting the joys of Greg's life.
In lieu of flowers well-wishers are asked to make a donation to the Greg Henry Memorial Fund at Hanford Joint Union High School District, 823 W. Lacey Blvd. Hanford, CA 93230. All donations will benefit deserving students in pursuit of higher education.
