Harold was born in Los Angeles, moved to the Hanford area as a child and grew up learning the scrap and metal business. After graduating from Hanford High School in 1960, he enlisted and honorably served in the United States Navy. On August 1, 1965, he married the love of his life Cindy Williamson. Their only son, Jeffrey Lee Green was born, March 29, 1969.
In 1972, Harold opened J & H Metal Company in Hanford. He successfully owned and operated his business for over 45 years. Harold was a man of many talents, able to engineer, repair or build most anything. He repaired all of his equipment, from cranes to fork lifts to everything related to vehicles. Many times, if he couldn’t find an adequate tool, he would create one himself. Harold always had many “projects” in action. When he wasn’t working on those projects, he was thinking ahead and planning the next one.
In his spare time, Harold bought and sometimes restored classic and newer cars. He built everything from shops to dune buggies. He built his own dune buggies and helped several friends build theirs. He even converted an old bus into a motorhome which provided many happy trips with his family to the coast, the desert, Oregon and other destinations.
The real heart of J & H Metal Company was Harold Green, the man. He built and nurtured numerous business relationships throughout the state. Along the way he made many lasting friendships. Some friendships grew to become “extended family” and still continue. Harold always made time to share old stories or talk about cars.
Harold was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Mae Green and his beloved son Jeffrey Lee Green.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 52 years, Cindy Green of Hanford, grandson Brandon Tweed and great-grandson Baby Matthew Tweed of Hanford, brother Michael Green and wife Nancy of Oxnard, brother-in-law John Williamson and wife Mary of Hanford, several nephews and nieces and countless extended family and friends.
Harold loved many pets through the years. He avidly supported Paws & Claws, a Hanford nonprofit organization which serves and provides for needs of Kings County animals.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to: Paws & Claws; PO Box 105, Hanford, CA 93232 (559) 582-2029.
