Ida M. Riley, 99, fondly known as Ida, the AVON Lady, passed away very peacefully in her sleep on Friday, December 16th at the Hanford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hanford, CA. Her loving husband Joseph preceded Ida in death. Her brother Bernard Braninghof of Troy, NY and her sister-in-law Marian Riley of Moorpark, CA survives her.
In addition, Ida is survived and will be missed by the four generations of nieces and nephews that she loved. To some of her fourth generation nieces living in Mariposa (the Broomfield girls) she would say, “I’m your Great, Great, Greatest Aunt, and don’t you forget it.” She was our family Character; upbeat, funny and she loved telling family stories.
Ida was a resident of Mariposa for 22 years before having to move to Hanford for her health. She was the local Avon Lady and continued to sell her Avon until she was 97. She loved Mariposa and all the wonderful friends that she made there. Ida was known for her friendship, her kindness, her energy and her generosity. She did not want a service and preferred that friends and family make a donation to their favorite charity.
In the spring her remains will be interned at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Saratoga, New York along with the love of her life, Joe Riley.
Family and Friends are invited to view Ida’s legacy at www.peoplesfuneralchapel.com and send condolences to the family.
Services are under the direction of People’s Funeral Chapel.
