

James ‘Jim’ L. Moxley passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, in Hanford, Ca. He was 94 years young. Jim was born on January 9, 1932, to Tom and Edythe Moxley in Miami, Oklahoma. They moved to Avenal, Ca in 1943 where he attended Avenal Elementary and Avenal High School, graduating in 1949. He was very involved in football, basketball, and baseball, receiving the “Athlete of the Year” award for the class of ’49.
After a short stint at Coalinga College and the US Air Force, Jim worked 42 years with Southern California Gas Company in Avenal and later in Hanford. Jim will be remembered for his support of family, his love of country music, his dogs, an avid sports fan of the A’s, 49ers, Warriors, and his beloved Oklahoma Sooners, and his infectious laugh!
He is survived by his sister Edy (Allen) Gilkey, his sons James (Cheryl) Moxley, Rick (Mica) Moxley and his daughter Danette (Tony) Bell. Also, by his grandkids Heather (Sklyer) Novella, Jackson James Moxley, Laura Moxley, and James L. Moxley, and James W. “J.W.” Bell. As well as great grandson Nox James Novella. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Ola Mae Moxley.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Hanford Post Acute for providing so much love and care for Jim during the last 6 years. A graveside service will be held at the Grangeville Cemetery at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
