Joseph William Rutter was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 29, 1944. He had just celebrated his 56th wedding anniversary with his loving wife, Lois Rutter. Being surrounded by his family, he went to be with The Lord on the morning of July 1, 2017.
Joe served proudly in the US Army 1st Infantry Division, until 1964. He worked hard to provide for his family, doing everything from driving a cotton picker in Hanford, California to working on 747s with Boeing in Seattle, Washington. He then brought his bride and three young girls back to the Central Valley, settling in Fresno, California. Joe then started working in finance; he climbed the ladder of success all the way to assistant vice president of Avco Financial and then to president of RTO Rents. His bride then blessed him with a son. Continuing into the prime of his career, he owned and operated his own business, Family Rental Center, for over 30 years. He finished his professional career as a financial consultant for Mesa Alta Transportation.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Wilson, Billie Mae, and Ola Marie Rutter. He was also preceded by his two brothers James and Robert Rutter.
He is survived by his loving wife Lois, and his four children; Lorrie, Lisa, Lizabeth and Joseph. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren; Melissa, Linda, Sara, Alison, Kyle, Jeffrey, Zackrey, Joseph, Weston and four great-grandchildren; Elysha, Caleb, Jacob and Hayden.
Joe enjoyed time at the shop with his close buddies, drinking coffee, talking about cars and eating doughnuts. He also loved trips to the beach and spending time with his family. He will forever be remembered for his kindness and generosity. This remarkable man of character taught those around him by example; loyalty, devotion and love. He will be greatly missed by those blessed to have known him.
Please join us Monday, July 17th at 10:00 am for “Doughnuts with Dad” Memorial Fellowship at Calvary Christian Center; 11274 Hanford-Armona Rd, Hanford. Joseph will be laid to rest privately at Hanford Cemetery.
