She was born on May 11, 1934 in Batavia, New York to Nelson and Elsie Ruth Pocock. Maggie met her soon to be husband Paul in 1962 while Paul was stationed in the US Navy in Jacksonville, Florida. They married in 1963. She worked for several companies over the years including Newberry Department Store, as a Telephone Operator for the local phone company, Roses Department Store, McCormicks Construction, Austin Construction, Safeway Milk Plant in Hanford and the Fleet Reserve Club 261 in Lemoore for over 20 years.
Maggie's greatest joys were her family, helping others and gardening. Mom loved her kids and grandkids. If it was just watching them play on the ground or cheering them on at a little league game she always supported her kids. When it came to someone needing a hand, Maggie was always there to help. If someone needed to go grocery shopping, needed a ride to a doctor's appointment or if they just needed someone to hold their hand, Maggie was there, unconditionally. To know Maggie was to know a person who showed unconditional love. She valued her friends and would and did do anything and everything for them. Her heart of compassion and generosity knew no bounds!
Maggie leaves behind her loving husband, Paul; sister, Elsie Ruth of Batavia, New York; brother, John Pocock and wife Nancy of Batavia, New York; son, Rick and wife Cathy Swaim of Hanford; son, Shawn Swaim and son-in-law Gillis Gibson of Fresno; daughter, Pam and husband Scott Gordon of Independence, Iowa; son, Darcy and wife Jamie Swaim of Mesa, Arizona; and some of the most precious people ever to have touched her life, her grandkids. Grandsons, Brandon, Kody, Caleb, Riley and Nehemiah; granddaughters, Celia, Payton and Aubrey and great grandson, Connor.
Maggie lived a full life. She loved to travel and camp with Paul. It seemed as her kids were growing up, every weekend was spent at some campground somewhere in California. Mom would relax by the camper while dad and the kids went fishing. As many of her friends and family members can attest to, Maggie had a 'sharp' wit. She had a 'one-liner' for any and every situation or comment thrown her way. She loved to joke and laugh. Mom rarely had a bad day. In addition to her family Maggie also loved animals. At any given time there would be a dog, cat, maybe a bird, a few fish and an occasional rabbit around the house. She loved and cared for them all. They brought joy to her life.
What gives her family peace during this difficult time is knowing that Mom had accepted Christ as her Savior. We know one day we will see a healthy and vibrant mom again.
The family would like to thank all those who provided Mom with the terrific medical care over the past year and a half. We would also like to thank all the Friends who visited her during these difficult last months and days. You all meant so much to her and we can't express our gratitude enough!
Services will be held on Wednesday, April 6 at 10:30am at People's Funeral Chapel with a graveside service at Hanford Cemetery to follow.
