Martha or Lucy, as she was known by friend’s family, passed away on September 6, 2012 in Hanford, California. Lucy was born on June 22, 1923 in Pope County, Arkansas. She was the 5th of 12 children, and moved with her family from Arkansas throughout the country until finally settling down in the Central Valley. Her first husband, Bob Woods, married her just a few days before the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Lucy was a prime example of the “Greatest Generation” and loved to tell stories about her time as an Army wife while Bob was away. The two had their first daughter, Jodi. They would later part ways, and Lucy remarried, to her second husband, Kenneth Trevino. They had their second daughter, Debbie. Lucy worked for her brother, Steve, at his grocery store, Steve’s Groceries for more than two decades, and was lovingly known by store patrons as “Miss Lucy”. She reconnected with her first husband, Bob, in the last years of life, and was his companion until his death. In her later years, her greatest love was her grandchildren. She found the most joy when being with her family and friends, and would light up a room when surrounded by those she loved. Her vivacious personality was legendary, second only for her love for her grandchildren.
Lucy is survived by her remaining siblings; Jean Schultz and Franky Hardcastle, her daughters; Jodi Sweeney and Debbie Garcia, her son-in-laws; Anthony Sweeney and Mark Garcia, her grandchildren; Alicia Clow, Coby Sweeney, Kevin Garcia, Bryan Garcia and Marc Garcia and her great-grandchildren; Katelyn Clow and Riley Sweeney.
