

Mattie Mae Griffin was born October 23, 1933, to the late Joe and Lucille Turner, in Union Springs, Alabama. She accepted Christ as her Savior at County Line A.M. E. Zion Church of Armstrong, Alabama where she served as a faithful member who truly loved the Lord.
In 1966, Mattie moved to Menlo Park, California, where she married Hiawatha Griffin, Sr.. She united with Cummings Park C.M.E Church. She worked for Quantic Industries after she served as a Teacher’s Aid in the Peninsula School District.
Mattie Griffin was truly blessed. She departed this life on July 11, 2015. Two of her ten children preceded her in death Vera Tarver (deceased) (Johnny); Stanley Turner (Deceased) (Jacqueline); both of Union Springs; AL; and leaves to cherish her memory, Shirley A. Hedgebeth; Union Springs, AL, Mary Baker (Henry); Rochester, NY, Michael Turner (Cynthia); Union Springs; AL, Bettye Chambliss (Anthony); Bronx, New York; Patricia Proctor; Rochester, New York; Hayward Griffin; Hanford, California; Hiawatha Griffin Jr.; Rancho Cordova, California; and Debra Griffin-Davis (Donald) Hanford, California one brother, Johnny Turner (Annie); two beloved sisters, Lillie Mae Cope and Sarah Turner-Baker ; all of Union Springs; sixteen Grandchildren; twenty-seven Great-Grandchildren and one Great Great-Grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at County Line A.M.E. Zion Church of Armstrong, Alabama officiated by Rev. Annie Ruth Cannon and assisted by Rev. Gary Lewis of First Baptist Church of Union Springs, Alabama with Burial to follow.
Services are under the direction of People's Funeral Chapel of Hanford, California and Carter Funeral Home of Union Springs, Alabama.
