Have you ever met one of those people who are so sweet, kind, and generous they make you feel at ease and you simply enjoy just being around them? Patricia L. Vaughn was just such a person. Born Patricia Lou Dunn on February 19, 1942 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she grew up in simpler times and enjoyed days spent with her mother, Lunell Dunn, father, Aubry Dunn, sister, Paula Dunn (Lewis), and with her numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. When Patricia was 6 years old, the family moved to Laton, California where she would reside for the rest of her life.
Attending Laton schools, Patricia grew to love the town of Laton, the people, and the sense of community. Patricia was in awe of the beauty surrounding the town with its majestic oak trees and illuminating sunsets. She often equated it to being similar to “Mayberry” on The Andy Griffith Show. She loved the students, parents, and staff she worked with during her 30 years as the Secretary for Laton High School. After retirement, her years at LHS were remembered with an endearing fondness.
Since 1949, the Church of Christ in Hanford, California, served as her spiritual home. The members of the Church were a very important part of her life. Patricia taught Sunday school, volunteered at Yosemite Bible Camp, Vacation Bible School, and Western Christian School. Patricia had a special knack for making things look beautiful in the Church building through her gift of florals and crafting. She dearly loved her Church Family and joyfully helped wherever and whenever asked.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Scot & Mary Goble; daughter, Jane Goble; grandchildren, Marquis Goble and Kaycee Bauer; great-grandchild, Evan Goble; sister & brother-in-law, Paula & Cleon Lewis; nieces and nephews, Kevin & Victoria Lewis, Shaun, Kim, Lucy, Jackson and Aubrey Davis; numerous cousins; and family in Oklahoma.
Patricia was a kind and loving person that daily practiced God’s teachings of forgiveness. She was quiet and sometimes reserved but had a smile for everyone and a genuine concern for their wellbeing. Patricia had a humorous side that would have one reeling with laughter. Many times one could hear her laughing hysterically at something Barney had done on The Andy Griffith Show (her favorite). Her fun, easy loving spirit made others around her feel good and it was infectious. Her love for her family, especially the grandkids was immeasurable. She would drop everything to be there to offer help, support, a hug, or a listening ear. The family bond was very important to Patricia. Through example, she instilled in her children and grandchildren the idea that family is everything.
Patricia will be greatly missed by all those who knew her; she truly was the sweetest person one could ever meet.
