

Ray Leland Baker, 90, passed into the hands of our Lord peacefully on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, in Hanford, California with his son Keith and daughter Debbie present. Ray was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 17, 1923 to Walter and Lula Baker. He stayed in the Detroit area until 2011 when he moved to Hanford to be close to his son and daughter.
Ray served in the Army Air Force during World War II. During his service his plane was shot down and he was in a German prison camp for nine months. After his military service, he married Helen Grecu his high school sweetheart. Ray and Helen settled in Southfield, Michigan and had three children Debbie, Gary and Keith. Ray worked for Detroit Edison for 45 years starting out as a tree trimmer, then an overhead linesman and ending his career as a general foreman in charge of a major warehouse in Detroit.
Ray will now join his parents Walter and Lula Baker, son Gary Baker and brothers Walter Baker and Roy Baker in eternal peace. He is survived by his son Keith Baker, daughter Debbie Wilson and her husband Mike, sister Madelyn Iden, brother Carl Baker and many nieces and nephews. Ray will be dearly missed by his family and friends both in Hanford and Detroit.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at People’s Funeral Chapel 501 N. Douty, Hanford, CA, with a further celebration of his life at the Hanford Elks Lodge immediately following.
