Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Rosemary was the middle child of seven and grew up during the Great Depression, learning the value of hard work on her grandparents’ farm. In 1941, her mother Rose bravely moved the family to Tacoma, Washington, where Rosemary graduated from St. Leo’s Catholic School in 1952—the first among her siblings to do so.
She worked for various companies in Tacoma over the years including Coca-Cola Bottling, Puget Sound National Bank, Big Value Market, and Metropolitan Market.
She retired from Metropolitan at age 74, proudly culminating 35 years of dedicated service to the grocery and customer service industry. Her customers were her friends, and her commitment to serving others was unwavering.
In 2023, Rosemary moved to California to live with her son Timothy and daughter-in-law Karen, spending her final years enjoying the sunshine, reading her favorite novels, and spending time with her beloved dog, Susie.
Preceded in death by her daughter, Diana Marie Devereaux Tower, Rosemary leaves behind her children: Laura Devereaux (est.), Tom Devereaux (est.), Mathew Johnston, Erin Johnston Grenier (Mark), and Timothy Johnston (Karen); 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A private service will be held in Tacoma Washington – date TBD.
