

Troy was born in Hillsboro, Illinois in October 1958. He grew up in Hanford, California out in the country and loved that lifestyle. In his early years he was active in 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA). He attended Hanford High School where he was on the cross country team and played tennis. Troy graduated from Hanford High in 1976.
He joined the United States Marine Corps in June 1977 serving as a Helicopter Mechanic/Crew Chief where he maintained CH-46 Chinook helicopters. Troy was a recruiter in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, a substation of the Marine Recruiting station in St Louis, Missouri from 1983-1986. He served on the USS New Orleans several times including Desert Storm, Desert Saber, Desert Shield-Kuwait. Troy also served in Operation Restore Hope – Somalia. He finished his military career in Yuma, Arizona and provided Senior Leadership in his assigned unit until his retirement as Master Sergeant in July 1997. Throughout his career he received numerous awards and decorations including the Navy Commendation Medal and Air Medal (Strike/Flight) with Star and travelled to all parts of the world in support of military operations.
After retirement, Troy worked various jobs as a senior aircraft mechanic, a maintenance mechanic, and a truck driver.
In 1995 Troy started a catering business, which he named Kinger’s, specializing in Bar B Que with all the fixin’s. Many of his events were for the “snowbirds” in the Yuma, Arizona area. He once catered an Oktoberfest featuring brats. Another catering event was served on military mess kits!
Before suffering from a debilitating brain injury in April 2007, Troy had dreams of creating a ranch where Disabled Veterans could ride and bond with horses to aid in the treatment of PTSD and other related issues.
He enjoyed the outdoor life, riding horses, motorcycles, 4 wheelers and dune buggies as well as fishing.
Troy is survived by his mother, Eva King of Hanford California, sister, Stacie Annon of Lemoore California, and brother, Matthew King of Highland Illinois. He has two sons, Troy Glen Smith (Smitty) King of Lemoore and Justin Joseph Smith King of Tulare California. He has three grandchildren, Kaylee, Carson, and Colton King of Lemoore, California. Troy was preceded in death by his biological father Terry Glen Smith and adoptive father James (Jim) Edgar King of Hanford California.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at Joe and Stacie Annon’s home Saturday, June 5th at 10:30 am
