Alice Wallace Moore of Plymouth, MA (formerly of Rockland, MA) passed away on May 31, 2021. Born in York, PA in 1936, Alice was the beloved daughter of Ruth Love Wallace and Walter H. Wallace. Her younger years were spent in the Pittsburgh, PA area. Alice graduated from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, received a M.Ed. from Antioch University in OH, and later enjoyed further academic pursuits at Boston University.
Married in the late 1950’s, she and her husband eventually settled in Massachusetts. Their family grew when they joyfully welcomed a son, Ralph, and a daughter, Elisa, in the 1960’s. As a young mother, Alice became acquainted with Marion Macleod, author of An Adopted Child’s Memory Book, volunteering for Mrs. Macleod for many years. This work led her to testify at state hearings, resulting in positive legislative changes affecting the inheritance rights of adopted children. In the 1970’s, Alice began employment at the Self Help, Inc. Head Start program and soon after directed the state’s first welfare funded day care program as part of the Anti-poverty Program services. A decade later, in 1985, her desire to help low-income families and children brought her to Massasoit Community College in Brockton as the Director of the Choices program. She retired from Choices in June 2002, only to return two weeks later as the Choices part-time Assessment and Advisement Specialist. She continued in that capacity until her death. Alice loved her work at Massasoit and especially the students she passionately advocated for, many of whom claim that she changed their lives.
Alice had an irrepressible zest for life and had a marvelous sense of humor. She couldn’t pass up a good sale and spent hours hunting for deals whether in the thrift stores or on QVC. In 1981 she met the love of her life. Together they traveled the world, exploring museums, different cultures, cuisines, bazaars, institutions of higher education, and generally loving each other’s company and having a ball.
In addition to her partner, Alice leaves her children Ralph Moore (Kim), daughter Elisa Zimmerman (Dan), and beloved grandchildren, Amanda, Joshua, Tommy, Nicolette, Shannon, and Mackenzie.
Visiting hours will be at Sullivan Funeral Home, 45 E Water St., Rockland, on Wednesday, June 9th from 4-7pm. A service will be held at Sullivan Funeral Home on Thursday, June 10th at 10am with burial to follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mt Auburn St, Cambridge, MA.
