

Carroll Patrick Gagnon passed away peacefully, early Thursday, October 14, 2021. Carroll was dearly loved by his wife of 59 years, Susan (Miller) Gagnon, his daughter, Jane Kent of Middleboro, and her husband, Jeffrey Kent, Sr; his son, John Gagnon of Hanson; grandchildren: Jeffrey Kent, Jr. of Los Angeles and his partner, Rick Johnson; Joshua Kent of Middleboro; Jessica Kent of Los Angeles; Kaylie Gagnon of Hanson; Evan Gagnon of Hanson, and Lianna Gagnon of Hanson. He leaves behind several nieces and nephews as well as their children and beloved cousins and friends.
He was the son of the late Patrick Gagnon and the late Isabelle (St. Pierre) Gagnon. He is predeceased by his sisters, Patricia (Gagnon) Belanger, and Lestina (Gagnon) Jasinski.
Carroll was born in Caribou, Maine. His family moved to Brockton, Massachusetts when he was four years old. Carroll graduated from Brockton High School in 1956. He completed his Bachelor Degree from Boston College and his Masters of Education from Bridgewater State University. He also completed post graduate work in administration at Boston University and University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Carroll began his career in education in the Abington School system, first as a 5th grade teacher, then as middle school counselor at the Abington Junior High School. In 1966, he became the principal of the Indian Head Middle School in Hanson. He led the school for twenty-four years until 1990, when he retired from education. During his tenure as principal he instituted the annual fall Turkey Trot, established the first student council and the annual eighth grade awards night and graduation.
After his retirement, he held managerial positions for Radio Shack on the South Shore. After his second retirement, he returned part time as an educator for the Sylvan Learning Centers.
Carroll had attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brockton, where he served as superintendent of the Sunday School program. Later Carroll attended St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Hanover and served on the vestry, was a lay reader, and a member of the choir.
Carrol was a fifty plus year Master Mason and aspired to the 32rd degree of the Scottish Rite. He was a member of the Paul Revere Lodge of Brockton, and the Fellowship Lodge of Bridgewater.
Carroll loved trivia, old time radio shows, cowboy movies, scratch tickets, his wife, his family, his friends, former co-workers, and teaching. Carroll was an advocate for his students, especially those that struggled with school. He served his community well.
Visiting hours will be Monday, October 18, 2021 from 4PM to 7PM at the Sullivan Funeral Home in Hanson. Funeral Services are Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 10AM at the Sullivan Funeral Home, and interment following immediately after at the Fern Hill Cemetery in Hanson.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Whitman-Hanson Dollars for Scholars in Carroll Gagnon’s name.
