David "Dave" Russell Gould, of Halifax, Massachusetts, died peacefully on October 16, 2024 after an illness. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 46 years, Barbara Taylor Gould, who died in 2015. He is survived by his brothers Gary (Betty) and Don (Marianna), his sons David Gould of Greene, Maine (Lynne) and Michael Gould of Dedham, Massachusetts (Kate), grandchildren Lyndsay Gould of Maine, Josh Gould (Sarah) of Maine, Pam Alley of Maine and Libby Gould (Dedham). Dave also enjoyed many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends who knew him to be a true gentleman, kind, steadfast and honorable.
Dave was born in New Haven Connecticut in 1934. He moved with his family to Braintree while still a child. Dave attended Braintree Public Schools and then entered the Army upon graduation. He served in the U.S. Army for three years and then held a government position that took him all over the world.
Dave and Barbara met while both were working at General Dynamics. They married in 1971 and raised two sons, David and Michael. They enjoyed traveling together throughout North America, Europe, and Russia. They were best friends and great partners who complemented each other in many ways. Dave’s other great love was a camp in Maine, where he spent time every year, rain or shine. Dave was an avid fisherman and sailor, a true outdoorsman in every sense. He had a firm handshake and a twinkle in his eye, and he will be missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank all of those who cared for Dave during his illness, in particular Jess from South Shore Hospice, Judy from Hansen Home Care, and Regeline Montes.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 27 from 1 – 3 pm at Sullivan Funeral Homes, 2 Maquan St. Corner Route 14 & 58, Hanson. A funeral home service will be held on Monday, October 28 at 9 am with burial to follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
