
Mr. Edward J. Hurley Ret. Lt. Boston Fire Dept, 92 of Hanover died Monday, May 24, 2010 at Bay Path Nursing Home in Duxbury. The son of the late Bartholomew D. and Marion S. Huson Hurley, he was born in Boston on November 14, 1917. He was raised and educated in Dorchester. Mr. Hurley served in the Navy during WWII. He was a member of the 40+8 American Legion Post in Wareham, a former member of the 110th Horse Calvary, the Mass National Guard, a member of the Color Guard American Legion Post 40 in Plymouth for 25 years, a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 718, a member of the Secular Order of Franciscans and he enjoyed gardening. Mr. Hurley retired in 1972 as a Lieutenant with the Boston Fire Department Engine 8 after 30 years of Service. Husband of Jacqueline A. Welsh Hurley and the late Helen C. Sullivan Hurley. Father of Edward F. Hurley of Northport FL, Thomas M. Hurley and his wife Barbara of Vero Beach FL, twin daughters, Kathleen M. Hurley and Karen E. Hurley both of North Ft. Myers FL and the late Mary Hayes. Step father of Linda Stevens and her husband Bob of Marshfield. Grandfather of Robyn Kyle, Jeanne Buckley, Jennifer Bravo, Joel Hurley, Jeffery Hurley. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Rte 53 in HANOVER on Thursday from 4-7 PM. A. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9 AM in St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, 392 Hanover St., Rte 139 in Hanover. Interment with Military Honors on Friday at 11:30 AM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Post 40, 199 Federal Furnace Rd, Plymouth MA 02360.
