

James Peter Murphy, Jr., 81 of Hanover for the last 47 years, passed away on January 7, 2018. Born in Boston on June 22, 1936, he was the son of the late James Sr. and Agnes (Ferry) Murphy. He graduated from Boston Technical High School, Class of 1954 and attended Northeastern University and Franklin Institute. James proudly served in the United States Army from 1961-1965 and was married in 1965. He was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for 36 years as an Engineer DPW and has been retired for the past 26 years. James was an active parishioner of St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church in Hanover.
James leaves behind his devoted wife, Geraldine Zanolli Murphy. He was the dear brother in law of Helen and her husband Richard Kelley of Marshfield, Elsie and her husband Donald Heath of Weymouth, Paul and his wife Karen Zanolli of Plympton. Loving uncle of Helenanne Dean of Marshfield and her boys Ryan and Joseph, Richard and his wife Joanne Kelley of Hanover and their daughters Tammy, Eleni and Martina, affectionately known as their grandpa. Joanne Kelley of Marshfield and her son Jonathan, and Julianne and Michael Flynn of Marshfield and their daughter Helena. James also leaves many nieces and nephews, Donna Madden of Weymouth, Judy and John Cullen of Hull, Donald and Cheryl Heath of Whitman, Jeffrey Heath of Weymouth, Diane and Joe Millen of Weymouth, John and Maureen Heath of Abington, Shauna and Jennifer Zanolli of Plympton, Lisa and Brian Foley of Quincy and many more grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington Street, Rte 53, Hanover, on Wednesday from 4-7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at St Mary of the Sacred Heart, 392 Hanover St, Rte 139, Hanover, at 9 AM. Burial with Military Honors to follow at Hanover Center Cemetery.
