

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James “JT” Thornton, of Hanover. A beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend who passed away on October 15, 2024 at the age of 63. He was the son of the late Irene (Sullivan) and John Thornton.
JT was born on April 4, 1961, and raised in South Weymouth, where he graduated from Weymouth South High School. After graduating, he began a life-long construction career, quickly climbing the ranks to become a well-known and respected construction superintendent.
JT was known for his sharp wit and infectious sense of humor. He had a gift to make everyone laugh, even in the most challenging times. His quick comebacks and playful jokes brightened the lives of those around him, creating a warmth that will be sorely missed. A brilliant and resourceful man, JT was a jack of all trades and loved the ocean. There wasn’t a trivia game you could beat him in.
JT was the loving husband of the late Kelley (Meagher) Thornton. Father of Amanda Thornton of Hanover, Christopher Thornton and his wife Jill of Marshfield, and Erin Thornton of Hanover. Proud grandfather of Ryland, Wesley, and Hunter. Brother of Jack Thornton and his wife Patricia, Bill Thornton and his wife Darlene, Janice Thornton, and Jerry Thornton and his wife Anne. He is also survived by many friends who were like family to him.
JT may be gone, but his laughter and spirit will forever resonate in our lives.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, October 25th from 4:00PM-7:00PM at Sullivan Funeral Home in Hanover - 551 Washington St., Rt. 53. A funeral home service will start at 10:00AM on Saturday, October 26th. Burial will immediately follow at Hanover Center Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer research in honor of his late wife Kelley.
