

Maureen Theresa Thayer, 62, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 25th, 2026, after a courageous sixteen year battle with ovarian cancer, followed by a sudden onset of acute leukemia. Her strength, grace, and unwavering faith throughout her long journey were an inspiration to all who loved her.
Born on August 3rd, 1963, in Boston, Massachusetts, Maureen was the beloved daughter of Robert F. Bent and Catherine “Kay” Bent, both of whom preceded her in death. Maureen built a remarkable 40-year career in the insurance industry, where she was respected for her dedication, professionalism and steady leadership. The last 17 years of her career were spent as an Operations Manager at Arbella Insurance, a role in which she excelled and formed lasting relationships.
Maureen valued her family, her friends, her grandson, and her Catholic faith above all else. She embraced life with warmth and compassion, and she approached every relationship and challenge with honesty, love, and unwavering strength. Her favorite hobbies included kayaking, biking, traveling, and most especially spending time with her grandson, whom she adored dearly. These moments brought her immense joy and were among the brightest parts of her life.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert E. Thayer Sr.; her children, Robert E. Thayer Jr. and Eryn L. Sherman; her cherished grandson, Jameson Robert Sherman; and her stepdaughter, Jen Reardon. Maureen also leaves behind four brothers, three sisters, sixteen nieces and nephews, and sixteen great nieces and great nephews, all of whom will forever cherish her memory.
Visitation will be held on April 7th from 4–7 PM at Sullivan Funeral Homes, 2 Maquan Street, Corner Route 14&58, Hanson, MA 02341.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on April 8th at 11 AM at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 1 Maquan Street, Route 14, Hanson, MA 02341. Burial to follow at Pembroke Center Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Maureen’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to ovarian cancer or leukemia research, causes that were deeply meaningful to Maureen and her loved ones.
Maureen will be remembered for her courage, her compassion, and the love she gave so freely. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
