

Richard O. Lund Landis passed away on Monday, May 19, 2014. He was the son of Mildred and Olin Lund and raised by his foster parents, Edith Estes and John Winslow of Rockland. Richard is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Elizabeth of 69 years. They grew up across the street from each other on Concord Street, Rockland. Richard had known Betty since she was 3 years old. On May 22, 1945, Elizabeth and Richard were married while Richard was on leave from the US Navy. Richard is survived by his children Ann F. and her husband Bernard L. McLaughlin Jr. and Richard J. and his wife Donna M. Landis. Richard is also survived by his grandchildren Troy R. Landis of Main, John W. Landis of North Carolina, Brian T. Landis of Maine, Scott R. Landis, Ryan P. Landis, Chelsea A. Landis, Patrick J. Landis, Peter J. Landis, and Bruce A. Wyman Jr. Richard also had several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was the brother to the late Barbara L. Bennett and her husband Robert D. Bennett of Merideth, NH. He was the uncle to James, Joseph and Paul Candito, Ralph Smith, and Steven and David Bennett. Richard enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sports events and also enjoyed driving them to school with a detour to McDonalds for breakfast. He was very comical in his own way with quite the dry sense of humor. He was a history buff who could tell you anything about World War I and World War II. Richard made airplanes out of soda cans. Richard traveled throughout the states and British Colombia and settled in Bradenton, FL for the winters after her retired from Boston Electric. Richard also worked at Fore River ship yard. He loved watching the Red Sox and playing cards with his wife. Richard was a first class Petty Officer for 6 years instructor in sonar in Naval Communications in Baltimore, Maryland. He worked at Paragon Park from 1940-1941. From 1950-1960, Richard was a volunteer Lt. in the Hanson Fire Department, was an ambulance driver, and her took first aid classes. Richard was also a member of the Hanson Historical Society. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 2 Maquan St, at the corner of Rte. 14 & 58 in HANSON on Thursday from 3-6 PM. Funeral home service on Friday at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Fern Hill Cemetery in Hanson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
