

William James Gerstel, 49, of Pembroke passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18th. Bill was the beloved son of James Gerstel, Donna Chasse and stepson to the late David Chasse. He was the devoted brother of Robert Gerstel, Christina Samways and stepbrother to Danielle Chasse. He also leaves behind long time close friends Peter Silvia and Melanie Robbins. He is survived by a large extended family and many friends who brought joy into his life over the years.
Born in Weymouth, Bill was raised in Pembroke until age 17 when he suffered a debilitating brain injury and blindness. Upon hospital release, he moved to Rockland. He battled back from his injury, relearning to talk, walk, and was able to graduate Rockland High School in 1997. He came back to Pembroke not long after and made it his home for the past 28 years.
Throughout his life, Bill was passionate about SciFi and Fantasy. He enjoyed reading, movies, and even LARPing as a teen. He was a lifelong Star Trek fan and video game enthusiast, still playing games on his computer daily even as an adult. Bill was also an animal lover, growing up with a house full of cats and even the current family pet, Marley, mourns his loss.
Visiting hours will be held at the Sullivan Funeral Home at 2 Maquan St in Hanson MA on Wednesday, January 28th from 4pm-7pm.
