Sandra Lea Sadler passed away on November 19, 2012 at the age of 62. She was born December 7, 1949 in Harlingen, TX. At 18 months old, she contracted polio and spent much of her childhood away from home in various hospitals. Despite the challenges she faced, Sandy attended Texas Women’s University and received a Master’s Degree in Library Science. Her first job was at the Texas A&I Citrus Center in Weslaco. She then got a job with the City of Houston and was in charge of a branch of the Houston Public Library System. After 21 years in Houston, Sandy retired and returned to Harlingen to be near her family.
In spite of all her physical challenges, Sandy lived a long, full life. She became an avid birdwatcher while in Houston and she passed her knowledge and enthusiasm on to her family and anyone else who was interested. She was able to travel and made long trips to Alaska, Hawaii, and Florida; most of her travels though, were with her parents in their pickup and camper seeing as much of the U.S. as possible.
Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Sadler, and nephew, Kevin Cline. She is survived by her mother, Loreta Belle Sadler, of Harlingen, TX, brothers Eddie Joe (Becky) Sadler of Harlingen, TX and David (Linda) Sadler of Canyon Lake, TX, and sisters Karren Sue (Vance) Cline of Tyler, TX and Laura Wilson of Harlingen, TX. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many close cousins.
Sandy was a very strong-willed and courageous woman who faced many medical and physical challenges but lived her life on her terms. In the end, she chose to go to her “Daddy’s Heaven” where she was made whole and perfect, rather than suffer through the fight with breast cancer. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Arrangements are under the direction of Funeraria Del Angel in Harlingen, TX. A memorial service will be held December 1, 2012 from 3-5pm at the funeral home.
