Anna Sutherland, 64, of Harrisburg, PA, formerly of Stony Point, New York, died on Monday, July 29, 2019. She was the wife of Anthony Sutherland. They planned to celebrate their 40th anniversary on August 4 of this year. Born March 2, 1955 in Svedlar (Schwedler),Slovakia, she was the daughter of the late Vojtech Chladek and Elena Malucky. She received her primary and gymnasium education in Spisska Nova Ves, and did further studies in Bratislava. Before emigrating to the United States, she worked in organizing cultural activities for children in Kosice, Slovakia. In the United States she worked as an editor for the Jednota newspaper for 32 years and briefly as the curator for the Jednota museum in Middletown, Pennsylvania. Anna had great interest in music and instilled this love to her daughters. Anna came from a distinguished family of organists, some of whom studied under Anton Dvorak and Bedrich Smetana. She sang in a number of choirs both in the United States and her native Slovakia. She enjoyed traveling to Europe with her husband and children visiting Salzburg, Munich, Vienna, Budapest and Amsterdam. She also enjoyed baking, shopping, walking, and visiting her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Catherine Laboure Church, Harrisburg and former member of Immaculate Conception Church, Stony Point and St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Haverstraw, New York In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Thomas (Ashley) of Williamsburg, Virginia; two daughters, Dr. Jeanette Sutherland of Tuckahoe, New York and Louise Sutherland of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, James, Logan, Finn and Caroline, all of Williamsburg; and a sister, Elena Janco of Kosice. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 3 at 11:30 a.m. in Saint Catherine Laboure Church by the Reverend Josh Weaver.
