Anthula J. Sakelaris, 85, of Harrisburg, passed away peacefully Tuesday April 4, 2017, at Frey Village, Middletown.
She was born June 17, 1931, in Nafpaktos, Greece; she was the daughter of the late Thomas Tarabicos and Anna (Papadoniou) Tarabicos. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years William J. Sakelaris, two sisters, three brothers, and a granddaughter, Angel Sakelaris.
She moved to the United States when she was 14 years old. She worked for many years at the family business, The Fisherman's Wharf which they opened in 1976. She was a lifelong member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Camp Hill. Anthula was active in Philoptochos, Daughters of Penelope and tireless volunteer at the annual Greek Festival.
She is survived by; daughter, Anna Sakelaris; son, John Sakelaris, wife Linda Sakelaris: daughter Alice Brandt, husband Gregg Brandt, all of Harrisburg; six grandchildren; Keith Carter, Kristopher Carter, William J. Sakelaris, Alexa Sakelaris, Michael Brandt, and Adam Brandt; three great-grandchildren, Kristian Carter, Romy Carter, and Alyssa Carter; two brother-in-law's; Aleko Sakelaris and Kosta Sakelaris.
Anthula loved spending time with her family and friends. Her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends were most important to her. She loved to travel the world, not only to her home country of Greece but also the United States, Caribbean Islands, Mexico and Europe.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1000 Yverdon Drive, Camp Hill. Burial will be in East Harrisburg Cemetery. A viewing will be held at 1pm until the time of the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Camp Hill.
