Douglas Eugene Quick, 36, passed in his sleep October 31, 2014 at his home. He grew up in Hummelstown PA and was a 1997 graduate of Lower Dauphin. He was a beloved son, brother, nephew and friend. He enjoyed many passions including sports, music, games and travel. He was an avid snowboarder and an especially huge fan of the bands Motorhead and Bootstrap. As a boy he was also involved in the Boy Scouts. Most recently Doug was employed by both Dawood and Nabisco, and was working hard to better his life while finishing his studies at Harrisburg Area Community College. He battled many obstacles in his life, including ADD, orthopedic surgery on both feet as a boy and various other medical issues which continued to plague him all of his life. But if you didn't know what he had to deal with, you would never know it to look at him or speak with him. He was always positive and enthusiastic in his manner, despite the issues he faced. And while he struggled with education all of his life due to his learning disability, he was finally about to achieve his Associates degree from HACC. Doug dealt with a lot of loss in his life and was preceded in death by his father Gary in 1987, both sets of grandparents, several great aunts and uncles, his Aunt Patty and his great grandmother. He leaves behind his mother Pat, his older brother Gary, his older sister Jennifer and her husband Phil Weaver, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Our Doug was intelligent, gentle, persistent, interesting, patient, hard working and special; not just to us but to so many others. Please honor his memory and help us keep his name and spirit alive. In lieu of flowers, if you knew Doug well enough to know what was important to him in life, please feel free to make a donation in his name to any organization or club that would have meant something to him. We miss you, Doug, and will for the rest of our lives. May you finally be at peace and free of the pain that plagued you in life. Viewing services will be held at the Neill Funeral Home in Harrisburg Friday Nov 7 from 7PM-9PM, and the Memorial service will be on Saturday Nov 8 at 11AM with a reception afterwards.
