Eleanor Hivner

Eleanor R. (Rutherford) Hivner, 85, of Homeland Center, formerly of Ecumenical Community, died Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Harrisburg Hospital. Born in Swatara Township, February 16, 1929, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Francis W. Rutherford, Jr. and Caroline (Smallwood) Rutherford.

Eleanor was a graduate of John Harris High School and attended Elizabethtown College. She was devoted to her multi-generational family and lived most of her life in Swatara Township, including many years on the family farm. Eleanor was a member of Paxton Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her children, Patricia Baily and husband David of Orefield, Susan Kennedy and husband Robert, Jr. of Harrisburg, and James Hivner and wife Kim of Linglestown; Sister, Caroline (Rutherford) Mason of Frederick, Md.; 10 nieces and nephews, 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Donald H. Hivner , her son, John Francis, and her brother, John Brisban Rutherford.

Services will be held 11:00 am Friday October 24, 2014 in the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry Street, Harrisburg. Burial will be at Churchville Cemetery, Oberlin. A viewing will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
