Florence A. Peda, 93, of Harrisburg, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at the Jewish Home of Greater Harrisburg. She was born in Dickson City, PA; to the late Peter and Anna Turasky. She was the widow of Michael Peda; and preceded in death by her brother, Edmund Turasky and his wife Bertha. She was raised in Throop and was a graduate of Throop High School. During World War II she worked at Olmsted Air Force Base in Instrument Repair and was the first female to achieve a mechanics rating. She also worked in the Separation Center at Indiantown Gap. After the war she was a telephone operator at Bell Telephone, then a telephone operator at Olmsted Air Force Base and back to Instrument Repair. She left to raise her family then worked as an inspector for Olivetti Corp of America. Florence was an avid Hershey Bears fan, regularly attending games up to age 92. She also loved dogs, and she donated toward supporting their well-being. For her entire life she always had a faithful dog. Surviving are her 2 sons, Gregory Peda and his wife Joann, of Harrisburg and Robert Peda and his wife Patricia, of Hummelstown; 2 grandchildren, Ashley Peda and Brian Peda and his wife Erin; and great-grandson, Luke Peda. She was a member of St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February, 19, 2019 at St. Catherine Laboure Church, 4000 Derry St., Harrisburg. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM Tuesday until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Catherine Laboure Church, 4000 Derry St., Harrisburg, PA 17111.
