
Helen Frey Van Horn of Paxtang (Harrisburg), PA died April 29, 2013 at William Hill Manor in Easton. Born in Wilkes Barre, PA on December 27, 1912, Mrs. Van Horn was the daughter of the late Martin Coryeal Frey and Geraldine Antoinette Warner.
A graduate of Coughlin High School, Mrs. Van Horn went on to attend the Drake College of Business in Elizabeth, NJ. Her first job after graduation was at the Chrysler Building in New York City. She lived her adult life in Paxtang, PA and was a member of the Paxton Presbyterian Church. She married Mr. Robert Weber Van Horn and they had two daughters. She was a single mother and ran a boarding house and thrift shop to support her family. Later she worked with the law firm of Metzger, Wickersham & Knause ,; Aircraft-Marine Products (AMP); and the Pennsylvania State Attorney General’s office.
Helen was a member of the Harrisburg Garden Club, Harrisburg Civic Club, Paxtang Historical Society, a volunteer at the Harrisburg Osteopathic Hospital and the Homeland Center. She also was a docent at the Pennsylvania Governor’s House. Upon moving to Easton, she resided at The Dixon House and attended Easton Presbyterian Church.
A memorial service will be held at Paxton Presbyterian Church 3500 Sharon Street, Paxtang on Friday, May 3, 2013 at 12:00 noon in her church. Burial was in the Church Cemetery.
Ms. Van Horn is survived by two daughters, Virginia Hall of Tilghman Island, MD; and Christina Bone and her husband Talbot of Easton, MD; four grandchildren, Todd Bone, Clark Bone, Drew Buchter, and Matt Buchter; and five great grandchildren Tanner Bone, Spencer Bone, Sophia Bone, Connor Bone, and Avery Buchter. She was predeceased by three sisters Dorothy Hendricks, Etna Clark, Florence Espy, and a brother Herbert Frey. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in memory of Helen Van Horn to The Dixon House, 108 N. Higgins Street, Easton, MD 21601.
