Born May 13,1952, in White Plains, NY, he was the son of the late James P. and Emily J. (Tracy) Kiernan, Sr; and preceded in death by his sister, Joan Kiernan.
Surviving is his daughter, Emily M. Kiernan (Jared Solomon), of Kensington, MD; 2 grandsons, Leo Jay and Charlie James Solomon; a sister, Sally A. Kiernan (Dr. Fred Ho), of Los Angeles, CA; and brother, Patrick Kiernan, of NY.
Jim was a retired Funeral Director for Etzweiler Funeral Home, York, and Neill Funeral Home Inc., Harrisburg. He started his career in the funeral business in White Plains, NY at his uncle’s business, McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett. He was an expert in his field and proudly helped thousands of families over 45+ years of service.
Jim was a member of the Rotary Club of York, and the Pa Funeral Directors Assoc. “Coach Jim” coached lacrosse for Central York for 15 years. He loved golf, kayaking, fishing, hunting, and sports of all kinds.
He graduated from Lebanon Valley College in 1974 and the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1979. Jim was inducted into LVC’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997 for football and lacrosse.
Viewing will be held 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, February 27, 2026, and Saturday, viewing at 1:00 PM to 2:15 PM, followed with a Funeral Service at 2:15 PM, Saturday, February 28, 2026, in the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg.
