Lloyd Price Nyce, born January 14, 1940, son of the late A. Lincoln Godshall Nyce and Anna Alderfer Price Nyce, loving husband of Georgianna Egresites Nyce, father of Lori Ann Nyce and Douglas Lloyd Nyce, father-in-law of Rosalind Margaret James Nyce, and beloved grandfather of Hannah Maisie, Katie Rose and Liam James Nyce, passed into eternal rest on November 7, 2021.
The first in his family to be born in a hospital, he grew up in his beloved Vernfield, Pennsylvania, on Indian Creek where Nyces and Prices has lived since 1720 and where his Unami ancestors had lived for thousands of years.
He attended Souderton High School, then Elizabethtown College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1961. He also attended Bethany Theological Seminary in Chicago. He began his career as a social worker, working his way up to the top civil service position in the Hearing and Appeals Office of the PA Department of Public Welfare. He finished his career with distinguished service as a Workers’ Compensation Judge in Malvern with the PA Department of Labor and Industry. He was an honorary member of the Philadelphia and Montgomery County Bar Associations.
An avid sportsman, he began with tennis in his parents’ backyard grass court and became a member of the Elizabethtown College tennis team. He also excelled in church league bowling and softball, basketball at the Paxtang Fire Hall and wallyball at the Harrisburg YMCA. He continued to play tennis with friends and family at the Hershey Racquet Club until he was 79.
Devoted to his family, the church and serving others, Lloyd participated in various ministries including making regular prison visitations at Graterford and Camp Hill prisons for many years. He was a great lover of music, taking his family to many concerts, often to hear Georgianna sing, and supporting their children’s and grandchildren’s music education. They never missed one of their children’s or grandchildren’s concerts. He was baptized in Indian Creek at the Indian Creek Church of the Brethren (CoB) and attended both Harrisburg First CoB and in later years Pine Street Presbyterian, where he combined his love of the church and of music.
In addition to his love of music, he had a great love of nature, whether enjoying watching the birds in his backyard or tending to his water garden. Quiet times were spent at home listening to music on his hi-fi system and watching classic films and sporting events. Lloyd was much loved and will be missed terribly by his friends and family.
A visitation at 10 a.m. and memorial service at 11 a.m. will be held at Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry Street Harrisburg, PA , on Friday, November 19th, 2021, followed by interment at Hummelstown Cemetery.
