Patricia Alice Meyers (Dugan) passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 17, 2022, she was 91. She was born on July 27, 1930, in Port Jervis, NY. This Irish gal grew up along the Susquehanna River in Rockville, PA. As a young lass, she enjoyed going on adventures up and down the river in her boat, the Leaky Lou. She had a love of horses and would often rent them during her teenage years. Later in life, she confessed to her children, that on one occasion, not getting enough “horse time,” she took a horse out at night without pay, she didn’t have the money. And later in life, once she had horses of her own, she’d often organize trail rides with her neighbors that included horseback scavenger hunts.
She married her high school sweetheart, Robert B Meyers, in 1952, who departed for the Korean War several weeks later. Together they would grow a family of four children on a farm in Clarks Valley, Dauphin, PA. From that farm, her kids remember hearing her blast a bugle from time to time, echoing down the valley. It was a sign to all the kids, that you better get home right away. Collies were her favorite breed of dog and it was common to have litters of puppies around. She also gained a love for deer hunting. Over her lifetime she downed 68 deer, and at the ripe age of 86, she got her last deer, as it ran approximately 100 yards away. The Patriot News published an article regarding Patricia’s hunting accomplishments that generated letters of confidence from women to try hunting with their husbands/children. She enjoyed telling hunting and many other stories to anyone who would listen. She took many saltwater fishing trips for flounder and sea bass, recalling the "good-old days" of bringing up two at a time. More so, she enjoyed the camaraderie with family and friends and the good-natured kidding; stories that were recounted hundreds of times among themselves with the light-hearted joy as if it had just happened.
Later in life, her artistic talents blossomed, and she became an accomplished decorative painter, having three works published in an international painting magazine. She was a member of Penns Wood Painters and taught several classes. A tax collector for 12 years, she also was employed by the USPS, delivering mail throughout Dauphin for many years.
She was a founding member of the Dauphin Pool Association, volunteered for Meals-On-Wheels and for 26 years, and was treasurer of Dauphin Area Senior Transit until her early 80’s. She often commented that she was driving the “senior citizens” to their appointments.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert B Meyers, and her parents: Ruth Dugan (Wells) and William E Dugan. She is survived by her children: Robert B Meyers, Jr (Linda) Tower City, David S Meyers, Houtzdale, Susan D Strohmaier (George), Akron, Ohio, James G Meyers (Sheila Stohler) Dauphin. Grandchildren: Kristopher R Meyers (Andrea), Leanna M Robinson (Hunter), Kimberly Hubbs (Matt), and Nicole Weber (Ryan). Great-grandchildren: Addison, Jacob, Rowan, Grayson, Audrey, Victoria, Juliette, and Michael.
She was a member of the Clarks Valley Zion Evangelical Congregational Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 25, 2022, in the Clarks Valley Zion E.C. Church, 210 McKelvey Rd., Dauphin. Burial will be in Dauphin Cemetery. A viewing will be from 10:00 AM, Tuesday, until the time of the service in the church.
