

Richard S. Gable, 96, of Colonial Park, Harrisburg, PA, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2012, in Phoenix, AZ. He was born on December 26, 1915, the son of the late Irvin H. and Addie I. (Shoemaker) Gable, in Lancaster, PA. Mr. Gable graduated from the former Harrisburg William Penn High School, class of 1933, attended St. Thomas College in Scranton, PA, and graduated from the Central Pennsylvania Business School. Mr. Gable served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, enlisting as a Sea Bee, and was stationed at the Naval Supply Depot, Oakland, CA.
After the war, he was employed by the Federal Government and spent most of his career at the former Middletown Air Depot. He retired from the former New Cumberland Army Depot in 1971. He was a member of NARFE-102 (National Association of Retired Federal Employees) of Harrisburg, and American Legion Post 594 of Middletown. Mr. Gable was a member of St. Ann Byzantine Catholic Church, Harrisburg.
Mr. Gable was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, the former Suzanne Mermon, his older sister, Helen (Gable) Tompkins, and an older brother, James Gable. Mr. Gable is survived by a daughter, Karen Sue (Gable) Baldwin and her husband, Dr. R. Scott Baldwin, of Phoenix, AZ, one grandson, Douglas W. Baldwin and his wife, Nicole, and great-grandson Wesley, of Tampa, FL, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, August 13, 2012, at Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg, PA. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at St. Ann Byzantine Catholic Church, 5408 Locust Lane, Harrisburg, PA, officiated by The Rev. Ronald Barusefski. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Harrisburg, PA. A Panachida Service will be held at 9:00 AM Tuesday at the funeral home.
