Tom Gallup was without a doubt the largest musical influence of my young musical journey at Warrior Run High School.  I remember clearly my sophomore year in 1970 (his first year after graduating from Mansfield) when he heard me playing trombone in a nearby room.  I just KNEW I wasn't a singer because I was told by a close family member I wasn't.  Tom knocked on the door and said, "That's lovely playing.  Will you come sing for me?"  I reluctantly did.  I sing now 54 years later because he told me I could in that one moment of time all those years ago.  I sing.   I write songs.  I publish them.  I play piano. 
 All because Tom told me I could sing.  In fact, I even pursued Music Education at Susquehana University.  Thank you, Tom, for your belief in me and the impact you had on my journey.  Many condolences to David and Tom's family.

I want to send my sympathy to all the family and especially Bob Gallup.  My name is Sally Wiegand and I lived by the family in Williamsport for years.  Tom and Bob were the 2 I knew most.  They came from a  good family and sorry Tom passed at an early age.  I am 89 and sorry to see him

We first met Tom in the early 70s and fondly remember him as a wonderfully talented young teacher with a passion for music and teaching.  He was a very caring teacher who touched and blessed the lives of his students and friends with whom he had any contact.  RIP dear friend!!!

There are not enough words to say the impact that Tom Gallup had on my life. I would not be who I am, nor be doing what I am doing as a performer, were it not for the encouragement, love, and opportunity that he gave to me at Red Land High School.  He was the teacher who I would go hang out with on a free period and talk... no agenda... just talk about life, school, performing, New York, Broadway (my dream at the time that he helped me make happen for real) and anything else under the sun.  I'd have questions, he wouldn't necessarily answer, but rather lead me to answer them in my own way. And then I'd walk out asking a million more.  It always felt like there was more to say, more to talk about... and that was the mark of a great conversation, and a great teacher.  It was never done... He would just say "Well, there it is." And we would smile, knowing we would be back around soon.   So Mr. Gallup, G, G-Money... our talk for now has ended, but we will pick it up again for sure.  Love you - Joe

Tom was an incredibly gifted musician and teacher who inspired so many of us at Warrior Run. He had an enormous impact on my life and career. Tom came to Warrior Run when I was a freshman. He was so charismatic! I loved singing in chorus and Madrigals. The next year, Tom cast me as Lady Larkin in “Once Upon a Mattress,” opposite a cute boy named Dave Minier. Dave and I have been happily married for 43 years! Tom encouraged me to audition to enter the music program at Susquehanna University, and he inspired me to become a music teacher. It became my career for 35 years.  I loved Tom as a teacher, a mentor, and a friend.  Like so many, I will miss him immensely. To David and to his family, my sincere condolences for your loss. All of us were so fortunate to know him.

My condolences to David on the loss of Tom.  I remember him as a fine musician--choir director and organist at my church for many years. He was also a congenial and pleasant friend.  I was saddened to learn of his stroke and his inability to play piano and organ.  I regret that I lost touch in recent years. i believe he is at Peace.

I am so very sorry to hear of Tom’s passing. My amazing experience with Tom was playing Abigail Adams to his John in 1976 at Lycoming College.  It was an experience that to this day is imprinted in my memory. He was vibrant, vivacious and passionate. I did not see him often after that  but always asked after him. I send condolences prayers,  and praise.

Once in a lifetime teacher.  The awe that every Williamsport HS choral member had for him cannot be understated.  We simply loved him, wanted to please him and make him proud.  Fond memories of his engaging choral direction, his talent for singing falsetto that rivaled the true sopranos, his piano and flute skills.  But most of all, his ability to take 60 teenagers and make them actually love the music they were making--that was his shining accomplishment in his profession as teacher.

So sorry to hear about Tom’s passing. I sat right behind him (alphabetical seating) for most of the way through Curtin Jr High. Sang with him in the choirs and played in the band. Here was truly gifted in all things musical and his talent will be missed.

Mr Gallup was my chorus teacher for 3 years from 1983 to 1986. He was a fantastic teacher and he just made us better students being around him. He was well loved by his students and I’m truly saddened to hear of his passing. Rest in peace sir

In response to my parents divorce when I was in junior high school, I threw myself into performance music in school, even taking summer school to fulfill academic requirements so I could have more room in my schedule for music. Tom was one of my favorite directors, helping a big nerdy kid navigate his high school years. Most all of my positive memories from high school involve music and he had a big big part in that.

I am deeply sorry for the loss of your beloved Tom. I remember his kind and gentle presence at several of our work meetings. I know how much he was loved by you, and how fortunate you both were to share your lives together. My heartfelt condolences to you and to your entire family.  God Bless.

My name is Rudy Mummey and I met Tom many years ago when we did the Lewisburg Summer Theatre together. He was our vocal coach and piano accompanist.  We worked together on several shows. Tom was always the "clown" and cleverly inserted the "Nola" theme into every one of the musical numbers of each show. Since the summer theatre was open to high school and college students from the entire area, he would bring some of his Warrior Run musical participants to take part in the summer theatre. One of the shows we did was "Oklahoma!" and Tom brought down Doug Strouse to audition for the part of Judd Fry. With an amazing voice like that, Doug was a shoo-in for the part. I remember when Doug auditioned, Tom looked back at me and nodded his head yes. I remember an incident that happened at a rehearsal for one of the shows. Tom had brought his son along to a rehearsal. Rehearsals  were held in the old Lewisburg High School auditorium with a temperature of "110 Degrees in the Shade!" The auditorium was being remodeled at that time and all the seats had been removed but the bolts that had held the seats down were still in place. I remember that Tom, Jr. was just a little fellow running around in the auditorium and fell onto one of the bolts and gashed open his head pretty badly. Tom grabbed him and headed for the emergency room at Evan Hospital. That was the end of rehearsal that night. I wonder if Tom, Jr. remembers that episode. He was pretty young at the time. On June 14, 1975, Tom played organ for my wife's and my wedding. True to Tom's musical prowess, the "Nola" theme appeared in all the musical numbers including the processional and recessional. I regret not having kept in touch with Tom all these years. He was one great guy and thinking of him brings back so many good memories. My deepest condolences to Tom's family and friends. I would love to attend his service but at the age of 80 a drive to Harrisburg is something I'm not able to do by myself.

I was a student of Mr. Gallup's at Warrior Run High School in the 70's. Have so many wonderful memories of concert performances, musicals, District and Regional Chorus competitions and playing with "Little Tommy".  We were a tight-knit group who shared a love of music and were taught by the best!

Mr. Gallup was my high school music teacher at Warrior Run and my church choir director at Zion Lutheran in Turbotville in the mid-1970s. I was a mediocre singer who couldn’t solo to save my life but OK on harmony. He was an incredible teacher and encouraged me to trust my voice.  My sincere sympathy to all who loved him. He was one of a kind.

Tom was a shining light for me when I came to West Shore to teach alongside with him. He was an amazing musician, mentor and friend. His students adored him and he helped to make the Red Land Music Department a safe and loving place for so many . His humility, wisdom and talent were special attributes that are rarely achieved. Rest in peace my dear friend  as you touched so many lives in such special ways. I will always remember your encouragement , support and kindness that you shared with me 💕

I had the great privilege of working with Tom on theatrical projects and singing under his leadership of the Harrisburg Chamber Singers. He was a consummate musician and a loyal friend, and I will miss him greatly. He was skilled in so many ways: as a vocalist, instrumentalist, accompanist, conductor and musical director. I had the great pleasure of knowing Tom not only as the fine teacher he was, but also as the wonderful person he was.  He was unfailingly kind and cared greatly for his students; they are better people for having been mentored by him.

Tom will be missed by many who had the good fortune to have crossed paths with him.  Add your music to that heavenly chorus, Tom!

Prayers of peace and comfort for those who mourn his loss.

Mr. Gallup was a formative teacher in my life. It was a tremendous gift to study under him for four years in high school. His influence went well beyond any choral or theatrical score, influencing leadership, friendship, and most especially humor. The world shone brighter while he was in it, even if he couldn’t always see that on his own. I’m forever grateful for his presence in my life and the thousands of lives he touched. May he rest in the arms of angels and may his family know comfort in these hard days.

Oh, Tom - so many wonderful memories.  But perhaps the most amazing memory is that of your insight into your students.  I remember 'confronting' you regarding a musical in which my son was not given a 'lead' role.  Your response was, 'Your son doesn't need this, but the other child does as he is in jeopardy of making some wrong choices'.  You knew that being involved in the musical would keep this kid on the straight and narrow path.  And I have always remembered that there is more to casting these parts than talent alone.  You taught me a lifelong lesson, Mr. Gallup.  And to this day I am incredibly grateful.  Rest in peace, my friend.
