A daughter of the late Dewey E. Bowman and Arline Chapman Bowman, she was born on May 20, 1931, in Weyers Cave, VA. Audrey graduated from Weyers Cave High School in 1948 and The Rockingham Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1951, earning a RN degree. After graduation, Audrey went on to have a long and fulfilling career in nursing, beginning at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. She left RMH to become the office nurse for Dr. Joseph Gardner, working alongside Dr. Gardner for over 30 years. After Dr. Gardner’s retirement, Audrey became a part-time office nurse for Dr. Walter Green until her retirement in 2005.
On July 30, 1961, she married Lester Dillon Eye, who preceded her in death in 1985.
Audrey was the last surviving member of her family, preceded in death by brothers Dallas Bowman, John Bowman and David Bowman; and sister, Mary Virginia Meadows.
Audrey is survived by one daughter, Kay Corey (and husband Doug Corey) of Fairfax Station, VA; one son, Kenny Eye (and wife Lisa Whitmer Eye) of Linville, VA; and two granddaughters, Rebecca Corey (and husband Jesse Grabman) of Las Cruces, NM; and Erin Corey of Washington, D.C.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 Saturday afternoon at Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home, officiated by Mr. Dale Rankin. Burial will be in the St. Jacobs (Spaders) Lutheran Church cemetery following the service.
Her body now rests at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 this Friday evening.
