Bernice Landis Snyder, 92, of Harrisonburg, Virginia died on April 9, 2019 at Bridgewater Home, where she resided the last six years. She now rests in her eternal home. Bernice was born in the Mt. Sidney area on July 23, 1926 and was the daughter of the late William A. Landis and Hazel Houff Landis; she was raised on a farm in the Weyers Cave area and moved to Harrisonburg after graduating from North River High School. She was united in marriage to the late Hugh Berkley Snyder on August 30, 1947 he preceded her in death on October 31, 1980. Bernice was employed for over 30 years at the former Valley National Bank in Harrisonburg. The love of her life was her close family and friends. She was truly a very loving Wife, Mother, Sister and Grandmother. She cared deeply for all of her family and will be greatly missed. Bernice was a longtime member of Muhlenberg Lutheran Church in Harrisonburg, VA, having been a Sunday school teacher and serving on the finance committee. Bernice was preceded in death by sisters, Charlotte Tsahakis, Maxine Dean, Martha Lucille Will, and a brother, Richard Landis. Surviving are two sons, Larry B. Snyder and wife, Mary Logan of Goochland, VA, and Dennis L. Snyder and wife, Toni of Harrisonburg; grandchildren, Amanda Snyder Bales, and husband, Jason, of Waynesboro and Berkley Snyder of Raleigh, NC., Ann-Charlotte Snyder of Richmond, and great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Peyton Bales and Sandra Rose Wishart; sisters, Helen Landis and Nancy Landis of Harrisonburg, brother, James Landis of Harrisonburg and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held at Muhlenberg Lutheran Church, East Market Street, Harrisonburg at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 16, 2019. The casket will be closed. Burial will be private at Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family would like to express great appreciation to Ann, Edith, and Kathy at Joy House, Bridgewater Home, for the loving care given to their mother. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be sent to either Muhlenberg Lutheran Church, 281 East Market Street, Harrisonburg, VA 22801 or to Bridgewater Home, 302 North 2ND Street, Bridgewater, VA 22812, in her memory.
