

Betty Ann McGrath Forkovitch, 93, passed away December 13, 2015 at her home in Harrisonburg. She was born on October 22, 1922, in Baltimore, MD and was the daughter of the late John Kilby (Mac) and Anne McGowan McGrath.
Betty married Nick J. Forkovitch in 1945, who preceded her in death in 1998. She was also preceded by a daughter in infancy and her brother John Kilby (Jack) McGrath Jr.
Surviving are son, Nick John Forkovitch, Jr. of Harrisonburg, and son James Kilby and daughter-in-law Faith Wilson Forkovitch, of Mt Crawford.
Betty lived her early years in Fayetteville, WV, then moved to Harrisonburg. She attended Harrisonburg High School and was a graduate of Madison College class of 1944 and a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Harrisonburg for the last 80 years.
For her love of Country and her patriotism Betty was an active member of Massanutten Chapter National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution where she served multiple terms as Regent, held numerous Chairmanships and was appointed District 6 Secretary Treasurer in 1971. She was an avid golfer as a member of Spotswood Country Club and participated in the LGA and the Divine Nines. Betty golfed weekly through her 89th year. She was also a member of the RMH Wellness Center, an avid swimmer and weight trainer. In the mid 1950's she was a Boy Scout Den Mother and a Sunday school teacher.
Betty Forkovitch, an award winning artist, belonged to the local Pen Women and the Shenandoah Valley Watercolor Society. She received National recognition in 2014 for one of her water colors at Continental Congress in Washington DC for the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also worked in oils, charcoals, and pencils.
The family will receive friends at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, from 6:00 pm. to 8:00 pm. The casket will be closed.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 11:00 am with Dr. Jon Heeringa officiating. A reception to follow.
