
Carl was a lifelong resident of Rockingham County and worked the majority of his life at Riddleberger Bros., retiring in 1976. He was a veteran of World War II serving in northern Africa. As a longtime member of Otterbein United Methodist Church he served the church in many ways.
He is preceded in death by his parents Carl R. Miller, Sr. and Naomi; one brother, Marvin Miller.
He will be most remembered as a devoted husband to his wife of 62 years, Leora Maxine Kratzer Miller, who survives, and a loving father and father-in-law to his children and their spouses, Jo Ann Michael and her late husband, Everette, Gary Payne and his wife, Brenda, Vicki Gaines and her husband, Edward, Carla Nemoytin and her late husband, Steven, and Douglas and his wife, Lynda. He was very proud of his six grandchildren, Lynette Michael, Adriena Riley, Clarissa Nesselrodt, Terry Knowles, Abigail Gaines, and Benjamin Miller; his six great-grandchildren, Evan and Lindsey Knowles, Alexa and Aidan Riley, Emma and Mason Nesselrodt. Carl is survived by two brothers, Norman Miller of Fort Myers, FL, and Nelson Miller of Harrisonburg; one sister, Bernice Golladay of Matthews, NC, and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends at Sunnyside Retirement Community.
Carl had been in ill health for many years but always managed to find enjoyment in life.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 15, 2012, at Sunnyside Retirement Community, Meredith Chapel with Revs. Ed Pruitt, Tom O’Gorek, and Tom Smith officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Sunnyside Fellowship Fund, in Carl’s memory.
