
Claire was born in Hawkinsville, GA, and lived her early life in Decatur, GA. She attended Georgia State University and High Museum Art School.
Mrs. Crawford moved to Ft. Defiance in 1947 where she made her home before moving to Sunnyside in 2003. She had formerly been actively involved with the garden club in Augusta County, American Rose Society, and Staunton Country Club.
Claire was secretary to the President at Blue Ridge Community College for several years. Her husband was in the US Navy and they enjoyed traveling, she also enjoyed growing roses, playing tennis, and loved to paint.
On September 20, 1943, she married Nathan P. Crawford who preceded her in death on January 31, 2003. They were married for 59 years.
She is survived by two sons, Charles E. Crawford, II, (Vina) of Greenville, VA, and Dr. John R. Crawford (Frank Spinelli) of Akron, OH; three grandsons, Trey Crawford (Tara), Michael Crawford, and Spencer Crawford (Kate); and three great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Harriet Wimbish of Hot Springs Village, AK and her grandson, Matthew Crawford of Charlottesville.
Her body will be cremated and all services will be private.
