Erva Hassler Whitesell

A daughter of the late Eugene Raymond and May Florence Zirkle Hassler, she was born on March 2, 1928 at New Market. She had also made her home in the Dayton area and had been living in Harrisonburg since 1987. Mrs. Whitesell was a member of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church at Hinton.

On June 19, 1947 she married Carl E. Whitesell who preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 1988.

She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Hedrick of Harrisonburg; two sons, Harry D. Whitesell of Weyers Cave and Larry G. Whitesell of Wasilla, Alaska; five grandchildren, Nathan Hedrick, Lester Layman, Toby Whitesell, and Michael and Shawn Whitesell; 5 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eugene R. Hassler, Jr. of New Market and Floyd Hassler of Timberville; three sisters, Audrey Funkhouser of New Market, Evelyn Washington of Harrisonburg and Helen Dove of New Market; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends who helped care for her, Roy Rogers and Trudy Robinson. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Douglas and Calvin Hassler.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, February 4, 2011 from the Chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Isaac Harper officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Crawford Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday, February 3, 2011 evening at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home.
