

A son of the late William A. and Lou Tishie Woods Tibbs, he was born on May 2, 1922 in Matoaka, West Virginia, but had lived the majority of his life in the Mt. Crawford, Virginia area.
Mr. Tibbs served in both World War II and the Korean War, and retired from the U. S. Army after 15 years of service. He also worked as a security guard at the Staunton Correction Center.
On June 23, 1951 he married Lera Elizabeth Tibbs, who preceded him in death on January 18, 2005. He is survived
by one adopted daughter, Judy Lynn Tibbs, of Churchville; one granddaughter, Kume Lynn Goranson, of Richmond; one great-granddaughter, Lydia Lynn Goranson; one brother, Frazier Tibbs, of Maine; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Tibbs will be cremated at the Lindsey Funeral Home & Crematory in Harrisonburg and the family will receive friends Saturday, June 16, 2012, from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
