John Thomas Spitzer

Mr. Spitzer was born in Harrisonburg on December 19, 1937, and was the son of the late Benjamin and Catherine Miller Spitzer.

John grew up in Brunswick, MD, and graduated from Brunswick High School. As a young man, he was a projectionist at the local theatre. John served with the US Air Force. He married Ruthie May Henderson of Atoka, OK and following his discharge, he returned to Harrisonburg in 1961. He worked for Dunham Bush and McQuay as a Lab Technician, and he was a former member of the Harrisonburg Jaycees.

He is survived by two sons, T. DeWayne Spitzer and wife, Lisa, of Warrenton, and Allen L. Spitzer of Harrisonburg; two grandchildren, Matthew and Anna Spitzer; and one niece, Debra Spitzer of Georgia. He was preceded in death by one brother, Leviathan Spitzer.

The family will receive friends between 1:00-2:00 pm on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm, with Chaplin Robert Dickey officiating. Burial will be in Cooks Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
