Katherine Virginia Simmers Young

She was born on October 12, 1919 in Daphna, VA and was the daughter of the late Saylor and Mabel Kratzer Simmers.

On April 8, 1939 she married, Minor Franklin Young, who preceded her in death on December 4, 1979. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Harold W. Young on December 8, 2002.

Katherine lived most of her life in the Augusta County area where she and Minor owned and operated the New Hope Beauty and Barber Shop. She was a member of the Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren.

She is survived by three children, Nelson Young and wife, Becky, of New Hope, Louise Meek and husband, Donald, of Culpeper, Ricky Young and wife, Keri of Mt. Airy, MD; two granddaughters, Joy Mauzy and husband, Dwayne, and Jessica Young; grandsons, Gary Meek and Dylan Young; great-grandsons, Shawn Mauzy and friend, Molly, and Brad Mauzy and wife, Taylor; three step children; numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She is also preceded in death by a brother, Howard Simmers.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Middle River Church of the Brethren Church Cemetery with Rev. Galen Combs officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Middle River COB Cemetery Fund, 2077 Knightly Mill Rd., Ft. Defiance, VA 24437.
