Kathleen Thacker McChesney

She was born on February 19, 1921 in Sangerville, VA, and was the daughter of the late Guy and Katie Coffman Thacker.

Kathleen was a lifetime resident of Dayton and graduated from Dayton High School, Madison College (now JMU) and University of Virginia. She taught school at Beverly Manor in Staunton and Augusta County Schools. She also was a home demonstration agent for Augusta County Extension Service and a Elementary Special Ed teacher of the deaf in Charlottesville and Albemarle County. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg.

Kathleen enjoyed the Garden Club, Book Club, family gatherings and church, Bible study, and circle.

On December 26, 1946 she married William T. McChesney, Sr., who preceded her in death on June 23, 1997.

She is survived by a daughter, Catherine McChesney Grant of Virginia Beach; two sons, William Timberlake McChesney, Jr., and wife Jane, of Charlottesville, Martin Bell McChesney of Dayton; three grandchildren; Paul John McChesney, Kathleen Marie McChesney Boyle and husband, Allen, and Thomas McChesney Grant and wife, Naoko Watanabe; a sister-in-law, Lee Thacker of Bedford, VA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Guy Thacker Jr. and a sister, Evelyn Thacker Prickett.

A Memorial Service will be held 1:30 pm, on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jon Heeringa officiating. A graveside service will be held 11:00 am, Monday, January 12, 2015 at Tinkling Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Fishersville, VA.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bridgewater Rescue Squad or First Presbyterian Church Visitation Ministry.
