

He was born in Rockingham County on July 20, 1916 and was the son of the late Staton and Alma Armentrout Long.
Leonard attended Rockingham county schools and lived in Harrisonburg for most of his life. He had been employed with Metro Pants, where he retired from in 1970, and the Auto Auction and retired from there in 2003. He was a charter member of the Keezletown Ruritans and also a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.
In 1938, he married Virginia Bradley Long, who preceded him in death on September 13, 2010.
He is survived by two daughters, Betty Painter and husband, George of Harrisonburg, Linda Rhodes and husband, Marvin of Toano, VA, two grandchildren, Timothy Painter and Michael Rhodes and wife, Cindy, and one great-grandchild, Virginia Grace Rhodes.
A graveside service will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens and a memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM, at Otterbein United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Grogan and Dr. E. Thomas Murphy, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service.
