

Margaret is the daughter of the late Thomas Metz and Rita Dreher Metz.
Margaret is survived by her husband, John Sander; son, Johnny Sander; daughter and son-in-law, Meg Sander and Greg Cassis, and their son, Nicholas Cassis, (Margaret's beloved and devoted grandson). Margaret is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Barbara Metz of Castle Rock, CO; her sister, Sister Dorothy Metz, SC, of Bronx, NY, and 6 nieces and nephews and 14 grandnieces and grandnephews. Margaret is also survived by many dear friends, each of whom was a special joy to her.
Margaret was born on January 17, 1942 in the Bronx, NY. She graduated from St. Lawrence Academy in NYC in 1959. She then attended Grace Institute, NYC, and worked for W.R. Grace & Co. Margaret joined the Sisters of Charity of New York, in 1961 and was a member of the community for eight years. Margaret subsequently worked for J. Walter Thompson Advertising Agency and NYS Urban Development Corporation. She met and married John Sander, a geology professor, and in 1976 they moved to Harrisonburg, VA. For many years, Margaret focused on her family and stayed home to raise her two children. Margaret began working as an administrative assistant for the Wesley Foundation (now RISE), the Methodist Ministry at JMU, in 1989. Margaret loved this work, and stayed there until her retirement in 2004.
Margaret was a very active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where she served on the Bereavement Committee, the Food Pantry, and the Council of Catholic Women.
The family will receive Margaret's friends on Friday, July 24, 2015 between 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. A Mass of the Resurrection is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, at 11:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Father Joseph Goldsmith will preside at the Mass of the Resurrection. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Margaret's life.
